Wind Storm 2006

So last week (Thursday night to be exact) there was a huge wind storm in the Northwest. My house lost power Thursday evening. We have some huge trees behind our house that were swaying significantly and we were a bit worried about one of them crashing into our house. Luckily, we were west of the trees and the wind was going south to north (not so lucky for the people north of the trees). At first, we considered sleeping in the guest room which is on the other side of the house away from the trees, but our cats need their litter, food and water which is in our master bathroom. So we decided to sleep in our master bathroom closet. Wasn't the most comfortable (I laid down two sleeping bags to sleep on top of), but I had no trouble falling asleep unlike my wife. The next morning, we still didn't have power, but we could see the damage that happened during the night. Pictures follow...

Here's a shot of a tree hitting one of the neighborhood houses. The damage doesn't look too bad considering it could have been alot worse. The tree was pretty tall and the very top which you don't see in the picture actually broke off and hit this person's neighbors house (front of the roof). My immediate neighbor to my right (left in the pic) had a section of their fence demolished.

Here's the roots of one of the trees that fell, it came really close to our fence. We got pretty lucky, just some debris in our yard that I cleaned up already.

My brother who lives in Sammamish didn't have power (til today), so my brother, sister-in-law, and nephew had been staying with us. Two funny things happened with my nephew and myself. So on the first day, I was playing Legos with my nephew. My brother decided he wanted to play too (since neither cable or internet was working so he was bored). My nephew gets angry at my brother and tells him that only Brennon and his uncle could play Legos. I'm sure my brother is a bit jealous of the attention I get from Brennon, but at the same time I'm sure he's relieved to get some time away from his son. Yesterday, we went out shopping and I made a comment in the car that my brother was a bad driver. Brennon got pissed off and demanded that I say sorry to his dad. Of course I refused and Brennon was pretty made at me. So I had a strategy to get back on his good side. I had some Sour Apple Mentos in my pocket that I was eating and had shared one to Brennon earlier. There were only a few left, but I ate one, my brother got one, and I mentioned that there was only one left and put it in my pocket. We were in the store and Brennon was still made at me, so he insisted walking around with Airi instead of me. After about 15 minutes, he finally caved in. He came up to me and told me he wasn't mad anymore and wanted the last candy. I win!
